About NFSI

The Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion program in the South Washington County School District is a program of choice offered to students who live throughout the District 833 attendance boundaries. Founded in 2004, Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion currently has three sections of grades K-3, and two sections of fourth and fifth grades.  We share school facilities with Crestview Elementary School in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.  We draw students from the cities of Woodbury, Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park and Newport and have become a viable partner in the continually-growing immersion education network of the Twin Cities.

Students in our program are immersed in Spanish as they learn in the curricular areas of reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art, and health. As with all programs in the South Washington County School district, we are committed to igniting a passion for lifelong learning. Our additional goal for our students is to communicate effectively in Spanish. For more information on our school, please visit the "Questions About Spanish Immersion" section of this website.

Niño a niño is a program to allow students from the middle school to share their love for literacy with the elementary students at Nuevas Fronteras. Students are responsible for creating a video of a read-aloud of a Spanish children´s book  and the elementary students can read with our middle school students from a distance.
