Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion Principal
Valley Crossing Elementary Principal
Incoming kindergarten families can apply for the Spanish Immersion or multiage program through online enrollment. Placement is determined by a lottery, based on the number of applications and space available.
Current kindergarten through fourth grade families can apply for the Spanish Immersion or multiage program through an online Intra-District Transfer form. Placement is determined by the number of applicants and space available.
Spanish Immersion Pathway
Spanish Immersion is an educational model where students learn to speak Spanish as a second language during their elementary experience. Students in Spanish Immersion at SoWashCo Schools attend Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion Elementary School (NFSI) for grades K-5, Woodbury Middle School for grades 6-8 and Woodbury High School for grades 9-12. The immersion program follows the same curriculum as other SoWashCo Schools and shares similar learning outcomes. The difference is that classroom instruction is delivered in Spanish. Classroom teachers are fluent in Spanish and are licensed teachers.
Multiage at Valley Crossing Elementary
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Valley Crossing Multiage Choice Program allows students to develop relationships with the same team of teachers and classmates over a two-year period.
Classrooms are grouped together as kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade and fourth and fifth grade. Instruction focuses on individual progress in both academic and social-emotional areas.
Districtwide transportation provided to students who live within the district boundaries and more than one mile from the school.
- Each classroom has a mix of ages and abilities.
- The intentional placement of students of different ages and abilities takes advantage of the natural diversity created.
- Students stay with the same teacher for two years (grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5).
- Teachers focus on continuous progress.
- Multiage allows teachers to differentiate and personalize learning for students.
